Cycling Adventures:
Cycle Touring: Our expansive 32 hectares of park and bushland provide a tranquil starting point for your journey. Situated 28 km from the Interislander ferry terminal, we recommend taking the free shuttle from the ferry to Wellington Railway Station, then boarding a commuter train to Upper Hutt. This approach allows you to commence your North Island tour in a more cycle-friendly environment. The camp is a 15-minute ride from Upper Hutt Station. Notably, the traffic lights en route to our location are the last you'll encounter until Hastings, 340 km north.
Mountain Biking: Upper Hutt boasts a variety of trails catering to different skill levels:
Remutaka Rail Trail: A popular, gentle gradient trail following a historic railway route, suitable for riders of all abilities.
Hutt River Trail: An easy scenic path along the river, perfect for leisurely rides and also allows access to the river for swimming, fishing, and kayaking.
Karapoti Classic Track: For those seeking a challenge, this legendary trail offers rugged terrain and is known for hosting the annual Karapoti Classic mountain bike race.
Mangaroa Tunnel Track: Part of the old Upper Hutt to Featherston railway, this trail includes a tunnel and offers a unique riding experience.
Totara Park Trails: Featuring a range of tracks from easy to intermediate levels, suitable for both mountain biking and hiking.
We provide complimentary air for your tires before you set out and a bike wash station for cleaning up afterward. Our covered BBQ areas are perfect for unwinding with a beer and sharing stories post-ride. With comfortable beds and plenty of hot water, you'll be well-rested for your next adventure.
Additional Attractions:
Lord of the Rings Filming Sites: Several iconic locations are within easy biking distance, including "Rivendell" in Kaitoke Regional Park, offering picturesque forest walks among towering trees and stunning views.
